In a surprising turn of events, the Tafel Lager Brave Warriors are set to embark on an unexpected journey to Zimbabwe today, 3rd September, for an international friendly match for the Inauguration of their head of state, Emmerson Mnangagwa, on Monday, 4th September, 2023.

The announcement came as Zimbabwe’s Football Association extended an invitation to the Namibian squad, who have been  preparing for their upcoming friendly clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on 9th September, 2023.

The Brave Warriors have been in training camp since August 22, 2023, honing their skills for the much-anticipated match against South Africa however, this unexpected opportunity to face Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national team has added an exciting twist to their preparations.

The Zimbabwe Football Association, after enduring an 18-month-long ban by the global governing body of football, FIFA, has finally emerged from the shadows when the suspension was lifted on the 11th July 2023, allowing the country to once again participate in international football.

Namibia’s Head Coach, Collin Benjamin stated that all local players currently in camp will engage in the friendly on Monday.

“The team departs from Windhoek to Harare, Zimbabwe, this afternoon, take on the host on Monday and return to Namibia the same day. Subsequently, the squad will undergo a selection process to trim down the squad before departing for South Africa on Tuesday, 5th September.”

The Brave Warriors will then unite with their international counterparts to finalize their preparations for the friendly engagement match against South Africa.
