The much-anticipated NFA Cup was launched on Friday in Windhoek. Betting company PstBet Namibia will sponsor the PstBet NFA Cup with a N$ 6 million boosts annually.
The PstBet NFA Cup will kick off this weekend with the preliminary rounds that will be played in the regions, this year’s edition will include women football as well.
Speaking at the prestigious launch, PstBet CEO, Steve Hamunyela highlighted the significance of contributing towards football.
“Just a month ago, Namibian football witnessed one of our greatest achievements in AFCON history, not only qualifying for the continent’s biggest showpiece, but also reaching the round of 16 with impressive performances against experienced African giants.
The entire country was elated by the Brave Warriors performance. Our team united our nation in a way that we have not seen in a very long time. It is indeed true that sports have the power to inspire and unite people and importantly change the world, he said.
He went on to add that PstBet will invest an amount of N$6 million per annum which will cover all event expenses.
“We have entered into a one-year agreement with the NFA with the hope of extending it for many more years.
This is an investment that we make proudly as a Namibian company, because we believe in Namibian sports and the hopes and aspirations of our own people. We must do more to create sporting opportunities for our youth to prepare them to compete at the highest level, Hamunyela stressed.
The preliminary rounds of the PstBet NFA Cup, which will include first and second division teams throughout the country, will commence over the weekends of 9 to 10 March, and 16 to 17 March, while the Premier League teams will join the action with the first-round proper on 6 and 7 April while the PstBet NFA Cup final scheduled to take place on 25 May.
