The 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers draw was conducted on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, at 14h00, with forty-eight (48) nations drawn into 12 groups of four teams each.
The top two teams from each group will qualify automatically for the continental showpiece, while groups containing one of the co-host nations will see an additional team progress to the finals. The 2027 AFCON tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania in June 2027.
Namibia was drawn in Group G alongside Cameroon, Comoros and Congo Brazzaville, setting up what promises to be a competitive qualifying campaign for the Brave Warriors.
Reacting to the draw, Brave Warriors head coach Collin Benjamin expressed optimism about Namibia’s chances, while acknowledging the quality and experience of their opponents.
“It’s a good draw and we are drawn against good teams. Cameroon is a powerhouse in African football, but our statistics against them look good on paper. Comoros recently participated in the 2025 AFCON held in Morocco and they have been doing well, with most of their players playing in Europe. Congo Brazzaville has athletic players and we are looking forward to playing them in September,” said Benjamin.
The former national team captain further stressed the importance of proper preparation and maintaining belief within the squad ahead of the qualifiers.
“For us, the focus will be on preparation, discipline and hard work. Every team at this stage deserves respect, but we also believe in our own quality and ability to compete. The players are motivated and eager to represent the country well. Our objective is to fight for qualification and make the nation proud,” he added.
Namibia will be hoping to continue their recent progress on the continental stage after impressive performances in previous AFCON campaigns, with supporters expected to rally behind the Brave Warriors as they begin another journey towards Africa’s biggest football tournament.
