Namibia Football Association (NFA) Executive Council Member Joseph Hailombe has applauded FIFA for its commitment to grassroots football development, describing the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival as a valuable initiative in nurturing young talent across member associations.

Hailombe expressed appreciation to FIFA for the invitation to participate in the historic competition, which brings together young footballers from across the world in an initiative focused on player development, international exposure and the growth of the game.

“It’s an amazing environment for our players. You can see their eagerness to play, compete, and challenge themselves. Initiatives like these are crucial for player development, as they provide opportunities to test their abilities against players from different regions and continents. They also play an important role in boosting morale, building confidence, and helping players grow both on and off the court” stressed Hailombe

The inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival is designed to provide young players with opportunities to compete internationally, experience different footballing cultures and develop their skills through meaningful match experience. The initiative also incorporates educational activities, awareness campaigns and engagements with FIFA Legends, ensuring that development extends beyond the pitch.

The competition features an eight-a-side format, with shorter matches and a structure designed to maximise playing opportunities for young footballers. By opening the tournament to FIFA’s member associations, the initiative creates a platform for countries of different footballing backgrounds to expose their emerging talent to international competition.

Hailombe welcomed the initiative as an important step towards strengthening grassroots football and creating opportunities for young players to grow, learn and showcase their abilities on the international stage.

The inaugural edition in Azerbaijan marks a significant milestone in FIFA’s youth development efforts, with a girls’ edition planned for 2027 and separate boys’ and girls’ competitions scheduled to take place annually from 2028.

Hailombe also thanked FIFA for extending the invitation to Namibia, emphasising the value of being part of an initiative that brings together young footballers from across member associations and contributes to the long-term development of the game.
