Head Coach, Paulus Shipanga and his deputy, Mervin Mbakera upped the Gladiators tempo this week as the Senior Women’s National team continued their preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympic Qualification matches against Morocco on the 26 & 31 October 2023 respectively.

The emphasis on the training session approach during the week was more attacking and the defending tactics in a tight area.

‘We are focusing more on the attacking approach, we want to score as many goals as possible during the first match because we are at a disadvantage (playing our home game in Morocco). The COSAFA Tournament showed us a few of our weaknesses and we were also working on strengthening some key areas. Overall, the players have been responding well to the sessions and the technical team is happy about the performance.

He further adds that he is excited to play Morocco and is looking forward to the match days.

“Morocco is coming from the FIFA World Cup and this will be a real life test for the girls and for the technical team as well but we are the Gladiators and we will go in fighting with everything we have.

I believe the team understands the importance of this assignment and are mentally in a good space despite being away from home and their families for a month and a few days. Shipanga explains.

The team is set to depart to Morocco on Friday, 20 October.
