21 April 2026 – Muyeka Mashiku a determined and rising striker for Mighty Gunners, is a true example of how talent, discipline, and persistence can transform humble beginnings into a promising football career.
Born in Kaenda village in Namibia’s Zambezi Region, Mashiku’s journey into football began on the dusty village fields where passion outweighed resources. Like many young players in rural areas, he started by competing in local tournaments.
His early performances did not go unnoticed. Mashiku was soon scouted by Blackhawks, a first division team in the Zambezi Region. It was here that he began to develop his technical abilities and understanding of the game. Blackhawks became the foundation where his raw talent was shaped into a more disciplined and structured style of play.
After his time with Blackhawks, Mashiku joined the Namibia Defence Force (NDF), where he continued to grow both as a player and as an individual. Upon completing his training, he advanced to the Special Forces and later joined Airborne FC in Grootfontein, competing in the second division. This stage of his career marked a significant leap, exposing him to higher levels of competition and further refining his skills.
His performances at Airborne FC earned him a major breakthrough,being scouted by Mighty Gunners FC. He started his top flight football this season and managed to bag the golden boot having scored 18 goals, with 7 assists in 30 games.
“At club level, my goal was to score as many goals as possible to help my team win the league, we however didn’t win but we managed to secure the third place which is an improvement from last season” he explains. “The more I scored, the closer I got to becoming a top goal scorer. It’s about hard work and capatalizing on every chance.”
Mashiku’s growth has also earned him recognition at national level. He was part of the Brave Warriors squad that travelled to Kazahkstan for the FIFA Series games held in March, an important milestone in his career. The experience allowed him to train and compete alongside some of the country’s top players, further boosting his confidence and exposure.
“When I joined the national setup, the senior players welcomed me and encouraged me,” he says. “They told me just to play my style of football as I always do.The first match against Kazahkstan, I made the starting eleven that honestly boosted my confidence.”
“At first, I wasn’t expecting my name to be called,” Mashiku recalls. “But when the coach said I was in, I said yes immediately. It felt like a dream come true.”
Although the opportunity came with pressure, Mashiku chose to embrace it with confidence rather than fear. He saw it as a chance to prove himself.
“I told myself this is my opportunity. I have to grab it and push myself to the highest level,” he says.
He has drawn inspiration from experienced players such as Peter Shalulile and Deon Hotto, admiring their discipline, consistency, and work ethic.
Looking ahead, Mashiku remains open-minded about his future. While many players dream of specific destinations, he understands that success requires patience and readiness.
“I’ll keep playing for Mighty Gunners and wait for opportunities,” he says. “You might dream of Europe or another country, but offers can come from anywhere. The important thing is to keep working hard.”
From the humble fields of Kaenda village to representing his country on an international stage, Muyeka Mashiku’s journey is still unfolding. With determination, discipline, and a clear vision, he continues to chase his ultimate goal reaching the top and making his mark in football.
