In a pre-match interview, the coach of the Young Gladiators, Errol Damaseb, exuded confidence as his team anticipates to face Congo Brazzaville’s U20 squad in a crucial qualifier match for the FIFA U20 World Cup. The Brazzaville Stade-Alphonse Massamba Debat is set to witness an electrifying clash at 15:30 this afternoon.
Damaseb revealed his starting lineup, emphasizing that the players are already highly motivated. He stated “These young talents believe in their abilities, and I see raw talent within the squad that I believe can overcome Congo Brazzaville.”
In the goalkeeping department, the team has Ramblers Ladies’ Hilde Tjiueza, while the defensive line has Ongos Ladies’ Prisca Amuntale at left back, Aune Andreas of Ongwediva Queens at left centre back, Mbakonja Kahiriri of Beauties FC at right centre back, and Frieda Kenda of Arrows Ladies at right back.
Controlling the midfield will be the V-Power Angels’ talented duo of Kristofina Benyameni and skipper, Anna-Ida Somses, and Michelle Oachamus of Namib Daughters.
The attacking front will be spearheaded by Ongwediva Queens’ Albertina Fillipus, Leena Alweendo of Okahandja and Elsebe Reinecke of Arrows Ladies.
Damaseb added that with eleven players on each side and just one ball, he recognizes that mindset will play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of this crucial match.
“The team has not only adapted to the weather conditions in Brazzaville but also familiarized themselves with the pitch. All these are crucial factors to success.” Damaseb stated.
To conclude, he said “Preparations concluded yesterday. We all worked tirelessly on strategies to secure victory today. The team’s fitness levels are good, and their spirits are high. The players mean business and are ready to make the day count!”
