Namibia completed their first leg match against Gambia with a crucial 3- 2 win at the El Jahdida -State El Abdi Stadium in Morocco on Thursday.
Lovisa Mulunga opened the score line with a well-rounded header after collecting it from team mate Zenatha Coleman off a corner. Ivonne Kopper was one on one with Gambia’s goalkeeper when she secured the second goal for Namibia.
Gambia came tailing from the back with two goals down to level the score line with a brace from Fatou Kaneth but Zenatha Coleman’s goal during the second half settled the contest in favor of Namibia.
“This was probably one of the worst games we have played, we managed to pull a win but I was not satisfied with the overall performance on the pitch. We conceded silly goals and the communication amongst the players was really low, we could have won the match with a bigger margin but I will take three points and go back to the drawing board” said Brave Gladiators’ Head Coach Paulus Shipanga.
The Gladiators will host Gambia at the El Jahdida -State El Abdi Stadium in Morocco on Sunday at 15H00 (Local Time) for the return leg. The team that advances to the second round of the tournament will play the winner between Rwanda and Ghana.
