The fifth edition of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup will see the Brave Warriors host the Black Stars of Ghana on 24 November at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in an intentional friendly in honor of his Excellency President Hage Geingob.

This was revealed on Wednesday morning at Namibia Breweries as Tafel Lager Brave Warriors will meet Ghana on the playing field while Entertainers for the day include Tate Buti, Exit, Tequila, Female Donkey , Gazza, and The Dogg.

Ian Stevenson, Manager: Sponsorship and Events and Specialty Brands at Namibia Breweries Ltd delivered an address on behalf of NBL Managing Director Wessie van der Westhuizen:

“ Apart from NBL’s passion for sport and its commitment in contributing to uplifting sports in the country, we are also very passionate about the O&L Group purpose of “Creating a future, enhancing life”. This is evident by the strong presence of NBL brands in local communities, and in activities and programs that aim to uplift the lives of our communities. Supporting local sports is also our way of bringing this purpose to life in the lives of our great sportsmen and women.”

Ian adds that this meant that the sponsorship stretched far wider than the event itself. In the case of the Dr. Hage Geingob soccer cup, it provided young athletes with an opportunity of making football their profession and in so doing providing for their families. This great soccer cup also …. “enhances relationships between African countries and promotes future tourism opportunities to Namibia. Local vendors are able to sell food and beverages, boosts hotel accommodation and overall economy in Namibia.”

Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) takes unyielding pride and joy in supporting sports development. Our sponsorship is testimony to how passionate we are towards the Namibian people, in particular their love for soccer, as the number one sport in the country. As a proudly leading Namibian telecommunications company, through this ongoing commitment MTC reaffirms its support to the passion of our people and our resolve to continue supporting soccer.

“We are proud to partner with the Dr Hage Geingob Cup because of the association it has with this great leader, who is not only a man of stature and our President, but whose love and passion for soccer and the country as a whole is no secret to this nation.” Tim Ekandjo. Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer.

The NFA President Frans Mbidi commended the organisers for their commitment to the cause of honouring the living legacy of the Head of State with the much needed international friendly for the Brave Warriors.

“This competition has always been close to our hearts and its evolvement is incredible, from club football to national teams’ football, we need to appreciate that and support the cause. It is a celebration of life and gives us a platform to assess our national team and, especially during this 2019 AFCON Qualifiers calendar. The Brave Warriors will be ready to defend the Cup they won last year against Zimbabwe,” Mbidi states.

Other sponsors, apart from Tafel Lager/ NBL and MTC are NWR, Air Namibia and Huawei.

The cost of tickets is N$30 and they can be bought from Computicket and NFA’s Football House from 17 October . The first 5000 people through the gate will receive a complimentary t-shirt.
