Karas eliminates previous winners at Skorpion Zinc U17 Cup

Defending champions Omusati were on Saturday eliminated from the 2018 Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup underway at Grootfontein with the impressive Karas taking Group C with seven points and host Otjozondjupa are also on course for the semi-finals after winning three of their opening three in group A while Group B is led by Omaheke on five points after the opening 18 games.

Group A
Otjozondjupa Region are sitting atop of Group A on nine points from three games as they defeated Kavango East 4-0 and Kunene 1-0 on the opening day and on Saturday put Hardap to the sword with a 2-0 win.
Kavango East and Hardap are each on three points and its only Kavango East together with Kunene and Oshana still harbour hopes of a semi-finals place as the best runner-up depending on how they do on Heroes Day, 26 August 2018.

Group B

Group B is the most open group with Omaheke leading the pack on five points after the second day of action, with Erongo in second with four points and Kavango West on three and Ohangwena on two points and Oshikoto on one. The Group will be decided on Heroes Day as four games play out to see who takes the group.

Group C
Karas Region came with the mission of winning the Cup that is sponsored by the zinc-mining giants that operates in their Region at Rosh Pinah, and after pipping Khomas 1-0 on the opening day, they whipped Zambezi 6-0 on Day-Two and then drew with Omusati (2-2) to secure top spot from Group C and a place in the semi-finals.

Karas draw with Omusati eliminates both previous winners of the competition, inaugural winners Khomas and treble champions Omusati to ensure that new winners will be caved onto the trophy on Monday afternoon.

On Heroes Day, Group B and A will play out with Otjozondjupa looking to cement first place in group A as they play Oshana at 09h25 in the second game. The first game, also from Group A will see Kavango East against Kunene at 08h00.

Oshikoto and Omaheke will clash at 10h30 in-group B followed by Kavango West against Erongo. Kunene and Hardap will meet at 13h00, followed by Oshana and Kavango East in Group A and finally Erongo and Oshikoto clash at 15h30 before group action concludes with neighbours Kavango West and Ohangwena doing battle at 16h45.

The semi-finals will be played on Monday, 27 August, Group A winners will take on Group C winners, (Karas) while Group B winners will take on the runner-up from Group A/B.
