Stars set up Standard Bank Super battle against Tigers

African Stars have set up a 2016 Standard Bank Super Cup final against MTC Premiership champions Tigers after winning the preliminary round at the majestic Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.

Aubrey Amseb first half goal was the enough to see the defending champions of the Standard Bank Super Cup African Stars past Tura Magic and into the final match to be played on 10 September against Tigers.

Amseb was at the end of a Nicky Musambani cross, the former sending a looping header into the back of the net past Collin Ndjai in the Tura Magic goal.

The two sides met in the final after they won their respective semifinals earlier in the day. Tura Magic beat Black Africa 2-1 while Stars beat Mighty Gunners 4-2 on penalties after extra time score of 2-2. Charles Hambira and Junias Theophilus put Tura 2-0 ahead early in the second half and Steven Sabatha got the goal for the Lively Lions of BA.

Stars took an early 2-0 lead through goals by Aubrey Amseb and Panduleni Nekundi against Gunners whose David Gabriel scored before halftime and it was 2-2 in the second half as Vernon Klaasen scored to army boys. Stars emerged 4-2 winners on post-match penalties.

The 2016 Standard Bank Super Cup winners will go home N$ 500 000 richer and the loser will receive N$ 200 000.
