Addressing the Brave Warriors ahead of their international friendly against Russia, Namibia’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, H.E. Monica Ndiliawike Nashandi, encouraged the players to remain focused, disciplined and determined despite the challenges they have faced.

“Despite the challenges, you are doing well. We have a few of our players who are already playing internationally, and that is a sign that we are growing and developing as a team and as a footballing nation, even if that growth is happening rapidly,” she said.

With the upcoming fixture against Russia, Ambassador Nashandi urged the players to approach the match with the same winning mentality and discipline they would bring to a competitive fixture.

“Even though this is a friendly against Russia, I encourage you to continue playing with a winning mentality and discipline. Every match is an opportunity to learn, to improve and to represent your country with pride.”

She also highlighted the longstanding relationship between Namibia and Russia, noting the important role that sport can play in strengthening the ties between the two countries.

“Namibia and Russia have relations that go way back, and it is important that we continue fostering and strengthening this relationship, particularly through sport. Football gives us a wonderful platform to build bridges between our two countries.”

Ambassador Nashandi further emphasised that the players should view the international friendly as an opportunity not only to represent Namibia, but also to build their individual profiles and open doors for their careers.

“Play for your country, but also play for yourself. Play to improve, to grow and to create better opportunities for yourselves. Hopefully, one or two of you will be noticed and get the opportunity to come back and play your football here in Russia.”

She encouraged the players to make the most of the exposure that comes with playing against a team of Russia’s stature, reminding them that international matches can be important stepping stones in a player’s career.
