The Namibian Newspaper Cup launched

Defending champions Oshana region will start their defence of the Namibia Newspaper Cup during Easter Weekend at Swakopmund against rivals Omusati region and Hardap and Zambezi regions with host Erongo to play Kavango East, Kunene and Omaheke regions at play during the 2017 edition of the Namibian Newspaper Cup.

The 2017 Namibian Newspaper Cup was launched on Monday at Walvis Bay to confirm the annual boys under-20 regional football extravaganza that will take place from 14-17 April at the Vineta Sports Complex in Swakopmund.

Oshana won the last edition last year at Rundu, defeating Khomas in the final 2-0 and start their defence in earnest in group A together with traditional arch rivals Omusati region, Zambezi and Hardap regions.

Group B will see the host Erongo takes on third place finishers last time out Kavango East, 2017 fourth placed team Omaheke and Kunene regions in the first round of action.
Group C is made up of Ohangwena, Otjozondjupa and Karas regions while in Group D, Khomas, Oshikoto and Kavango West will battle for supremacy.

The competition co-sponsor Nedbank committed N$500 000 towards the event, while the national broadcaster NBC also signed a memorandum of understanding during the draw for coverage of the prestigious annual competition.

Easter Sunday, 16 April, semifinals: Group A winner v Group B ; Group C winner v Group D winner; Exhibition match: Select under-20 women's national team v under-20 Erongo women team; The Namibian team v Nedbank Team.
Easter Monday, 17, April: Third place playoff match and the final.
