Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti has decided on former teammate Ronnie Kanelelo as his assistant coach as he takes charge of his two-year tenure at the helm with the COSAFA Cup in Zambia in two weeks’ time the primary focus.

Mannetti who was pointed as Brave Warriors coach on 19 June 2013 today reveals that he has indeed chosen former Brave Warriors teammate Ronnie Kanelelo as his preferred assistant coach.

“I was given the liberty to choose my own assistant coach and after careful consideration of all the colleagues within coaching, I have decided on Ronnie and I trust that together we can take this team forward” says Mannetti.

Kanelelo and Mannetti played together for the famous Brave Warriors Class of 1998 which was the first group of national team players to qualify for the CAF Nations Cup in 1998 and Mannetti reckons Kanalelo’s experience will come in handy.

“ Ronnie has been around for a long time as a player and later as part of the technical team and is also very qualified as coach and is an assistant at a PSL club (Maritzburg United),” adds Mannetti.

He adds that he has worked with Kanelelo for about five years as coaches and that he (Kanelelo) has the edge.

“Ronnie has the quality, he is available and our working relationship is good. He understands football well and I expect him to join the team this week from Maritzburg”.

Mannetti, assisted by Kanelelo guided the Warriors to an impressive one-all draw against African Champions Nigeria at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on 12 June in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Mannetti emphasis that his technical team will be open to consultations with other people to advance the national team and calls for support rather than foul-cries.
“We are coaches and we need support, this is for all Namibians and we can listen to advice but ultimately I’m given this job and my judgment will be crucial” explains Mannetti.

Gerson Kandjii remains team doctor of the team, while the two coaches will be deciding on a new goalkeeper coach in due course, Mannetti states.

The Brave Warriors 25-men squad that was announced on 19 June started training this morning and the team is training at the Ramblers Stadium with the morning sessions at 09h30 and the afternoon sessions at 15h00.
