Ballotti Goes to Hennef


Namibia’s promising youthful coach Dino Ballotti is in Germany for the annual German Football Federation Coaching Course in Hennef.

The course that brings together various promising coaches from all parts of the world will start on Monday, 04 April to 23 April and Namibia’s Ballotti will be amongst the participants as the intensive coaching course.

The national women soccer team the Brave Gladiators faces their toughest task to date as they visit the reigning queens of African football the Super Falcons of Nigeria on Sunday.

The encounter between the two sides will the first leg match of their London 2012 Olympics qualifiers fixture and will be played at the National Stadium in Abuja.

The Jacqui Shipanga coaches Gladiators left Namibia on Thursday for the match and will be hoping that they last weekend 1-0 victory over Botswana can psychologically help them through the tough assignment at hand.

The Brave Warriors suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at Burkina Faso over the weekend to all but leave their 2012 AFCON appearance in tatters.

After going down 2-0 at halftime, it got worse for the visitors as veterans striker Henrico Botes was sown red in the second half as Burkina Faso scored two more goals to complete a four-goal rout over Namibia.

It was a disappointing performance for the team on the Saturday night in Ouagadougou, and was the final straw for the coach Brain Isaacs who future will be reviewed this week following his mandate for his two matches.

The Brave Warriors are gearing upon for their crucial 2012 CAF Nations Cup qualifier match against host Burkina Faso on Saturday in favorable style.

News from the team camp is that the team arrived safely in Ouagadougou on Thursday ahead of their match on Saturday at the Stade Du 4 Aout Stadium in the capital of the west African state which hosted the 2008 Nations Cup, Namibia’s first continental showpiece appearance.

Gladiators host Botswana

The Brave Gladiators will take on Botswana in a friendly match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday as they prepare for the crucial London 2012 Olympic qualifier against Nigeria on April 2 in Abuja.

Following the Gladiators 2-1 defeat at South Africa last weekend, the ladies will go all out to complete their preparation for the Nigeria clash with a great result and seeing of the Botswana team will be vital.

The technical team have been using various players to see how they can fit into the puzzle comes April 2.

Warriors departs for Ouagadougou

The Brave Warriors squad for the titanic clash against Burkina Faso has been released and will depart to Ouagadougou on Wednesday for the March 26 encounter.

The squad was released by the technical team on Tuesday and includes the Black Africa defensive pair of Hartman Toromba, Dacosta Angula and utility player Densil Haoseb.

Also in the team are seasoned midfielder Jamunovandu Ngatjizeko of African Stars, who is joined by teammates Ronald Ketjijere and Ninja Karongee in the engine-room.

Defender Rejoice Kasaona scored the only goal for the Brave Gladiators as they went down 2-1 to South Africa on Saturday afternoon at the Danie Kuys Stadium in Upington, Northern Cape, South Africa.

The International Friendly match provided the two sides with some great preparation for their respective 2012 Olympic Games Qualifiers as Namibia face Nigeria and South Africa takes on Tunisia on April 2, first leg.

Condolences: Mr. Laurentius Humphries

The Namibia Football Association President, Executive Committee members, staff, members and the entire football family in Namibia express our heartfelt shock and dismay about the death of Mr. Laurentius Humphries on 19 March 2011.

Mr. Humphries, Head of the Humphries Security Company, which has provided security for football over the past years at International, Premiership and Cup matches, was at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday night during the Namibia Premiership games when the unfortunate happened.

Warriors draws at Botswana

The Brave Warriors played to one-all draw at Botswana on Wednesday night to give coach Brain Isaacs his draw in two matches of his tenure.

The intentional friendly match played at Maun by locally-based players from both countries provided the coaches of the two nations with a platform to test few local players, who will be part of the 2012 Africa nations Cup qualifier matches slated for March 26.

The Namibians gave a great deal of themselves in match imposing themselves well and dully scored on 33 minutes, through Ramblers winger and youth international Eslin Kamuhanga.

The Brave Gladiators will play South Africa and Botswana this month as they prepare for the Nigeria fixture in the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifier early April.

According to the national women soccer team coach Jacqui Shipanga, there is change in the programme as South Africa came through recently with a request for a friendly game and it was agreed that Namibia will play South Africa on March 19 in Kimberly, South Africa and will face Botswana on March 26 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek.
