7 September 2025 -With the heartbreaking defeat to Malawi in their FIFA World Cup qualifiers encounter on Friday behind them, the Namibia’s Senior Men’s national team will be hoping to bounce back when they face Islanders, Sao Tome e Principe at the Obed Ithani Chilume Stadium on 9 September at 15:00.
The players understand what is at stake in the upcoming match and what is expected of them, explained senior player Riaan Hanamub. “We are moving on from the Malawi match and we know what we need to do better and work on. This is not the result we were to get in this round, but it is the result that we now have to work with. The entire team understands the tasks at hand against Sao Tome and we will go all out and keep our chances of making it out of the group stage high” he said
Speaking on the training session, coach Willem Mwedihanga said the session focused on improving our play in the middle third by sharpening passing combinations, movement, and tactical awareness.
“We worked on quick passing rondos to build confidence on the ball, followed by zone transition games to encourage players to rotate into different spaces and create better passing options. The session ended with a mid-block defensive exercise, emphasizing team shape, compactness, and guiding the opposition wide to control the game from midfield.”
Namibia is currently in second place behind Tunisia in Group H.
