9 February 2026 – Club leaders from the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) and the FNB Women Super League are being treated to a two-day FIFA Club Management course aimed at strengthening the administration and professional operations of local football clubs.
The programme focuses on key areas such as governance, strategic planning, financial management, marketing, and sustainable club development. It is designed to equip club executives and administrators with modern management skills that align with international football standards.
During the opening ceremony,NFA Acting General Secretary ,Mabos Vries welcomed the initiative by the football governing body.
“The course forms part of FIFA’s broader efforts to professionalise football structures at club level and improve the overall competitiveness of domestic leagues The NPFL is in a transitional phase to become an independent league from the FA and this course is in line with that and to ensure a smooth transition. One of the key discussions will be governance. Governance brings accountability and transparency;this will highly be beneficial for clubs” he said
FIFA Consultant,Pedro said that the idea behind the initiative is for FIFA to be closer to stakeholders like leagues and clubs and to transfer knowledge.
“If we want football to professionalize, to develop, it’s important to know also how the clubs are run off the pitch. And this transfer of knowledge is essential for development. As what happens on the pitch makes all of us competitors, the clubs are competitors between themselves, but off the pitch, you need to try to be as efficient as possible, which means in your matches, the running of your team will be done more efficiently. And this is for clubs, but for leagues and federations that have a wider role in terms of management of football, this is quite essential also to help the clubs professionalize.
I like to do some engaging sessions, and from the questions I have been asking, I can gather that there is an understanding. Of course, there are many things that are new, otherwise we would not be here, but there is a good understanding of the key basics of sports management. We hope that with the content that we are giving, the clubs can go the extra step”
By including both men’s and women’s leagues, the initiative also highlights the growing emphasis on developing women’s football in Namibia.
