Namibia got off to a rocky start when they played Angola in their opening fixture of the Region Five – COSAFA U20 Championship at the Dr Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on 4 July 2025.

The Young Warriors suffered a 1-0 defeat. Danilson Cundula  scored an early goal in the starting half and the Young Warriors failed to equalize. Speaking at the post-match presser head coach, Jerimi Zimmer said his side had a good match against a well-organized side.

“ We played a good game, the intensity was high as expected when you play a team like Angola, we had a few chances but were not able to convert but overall, I’m proud of how the boys played, they kept the structure as discussed at the training sessions. The focus will shift to the next match; we still stand a good chance of qualifying to the next round of the tournament – winning the remaining matches is crucial in that” he said

Errol Damaseb, the coach of the women’s team  maintained  that his side had a good match, and they will take the one point and return to the drawing board for the next match.

“We had a good game, the players played in sync and carried out instructions well but we kept giving the ball away and that is one area that we have to go work on for the next match”
