Telecommunications giant, MTC launched the MTC Maris Cup earlier today at their Headquarters.The MTC Maris Cup will be played by the Debmarine Namibia Premiership teams over a period of four weeks starting next year January. The winner of the competition walks away with N$ 1.5 million.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Human Capital, Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer, Tim Ekandjo highlighted the importance of preseason training.
“Every team will receive Thirty thousand Namibian dollars for preparations for every match they are going to play. This will help boost team moral and ease the burden of preparations from the teams.
NFA General Secretary, Charles Siyauya applauded MTC for the initiative.
“I would like to express our deepest gratitude to our esteemed partners at MTC for your unwavering commitment to the development of Namibian football. Your generous sponsorship of the MTC Maris Cup is a testament to their dedication to our sport and their belief in the potential of our players.
He added that the MTC Maris Cup is a landmark event for Namibian football.
“The cup promises to be an exciting and competitive tournament that will showcase the skills and passion of our local players. This sponsorship comes at a crucial time when our nation yearns for the return of football to our stadiums. League champions, African Stars Soccer Club are pitted against newcomers Blue Boys FC while runner ups, FC Ongos takes on Cuca Tops FC.
