10 October 2025- Namibia will be hoping to make their second appearance at the Total Energies Women’s African Nations Cup (WAFCON) when the tournament is hosted in Morocco next year. The Brave Gladiators made their maiden appearance when the tournament was hosted in Namibia, Windhoek in 2014.
The senior women’s team defeated Eswatini 4-0 (aggregated) to advance to the second round of the qualification rounds, they are set to play Zambia on 26 & 28 October 2025.
Newly appointed head coach, Lucky Kakuva spoke on the team’s preparations and readiness ahead of the crucial encounter.
“We kicked off preparations mid last month and I’m impressed with the input the team has been putting in and going forward we can only get better. The first week we focused more on fitness, just to get the players up to speed because they haven’t played competitive football in a while, the league ended in June. I reduced the squad to 27 players to make it easier to work with a small group. All the international based players are present with the exception of Vewe Kotjipati who will hopefully join us in South Africa.
He adds that no injuries have been reported and he hopes to announce the final squad during the weekend.
