27 January 2025 – The FIFA FUTSAL Coaching Course is currently underway at the Football House in Katutura with practical on-court sessions taking place at the DTS, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen futsal development and coaching standards in the country.
The five-day workshop brings together local coaches for an intensive programme that combines classroom-based learning with hands-on practical training. The course is designed to enhance coaches’ understanding of modern futsal principles, including game philosophy, tactics, player development, and match management. Participants are being guided through FIFA’s structured futsal coaching methodology, with a strong emphasis on practical application. The on-court sessions allow coaches to translate theory into practice, focusing on technical skills, team organization, transitions, and set-piece situations specific to futsal.
Speaking during the FIFA Futsal Coaching Course opening ceremony, FIFA Coaching Instructor, Graeme Dell emphasized the importance of integrating futsal and football as part of a unified development pathway, particularly in countries with smaller populations.
“With a population of between 2.9 and 3 million, he noted that it is unrealistic to develop football and futsal as completely separate strands. Instead, both disciplines must work together to contribute to the overall growth of the game. Participants were reminded that they are not only shaping their own coaching journeys but also playing a role in guiding the development of others across the wider football community” he said
Coaches were encouraged to engage with, understand, and embrace futsal as an essential component of the football family. The discussion also highlighted the distinction between leadership and management in sport. Leadership, he explained, is about vision, direction, and objectives, while management focuses on the effective deployment and development of available resources to achieve those goals.
The course forms part of FIFA’s commitment to supporting member associations through capacity building and coach education. By equipping coaches with up-to-date knowledge and tools, the programme aims to contribute to the long-term growth and sustainability of futsal at both grassroots and elite levels.
