6 April 2026 – The Nedbank Newspaper Cup final delivered an exciting and hard-fought encounter as Erongo claimed a 2–1 victory over Kunene to lift the prestigious trophy at the West Dene
Kunene started the match on a strong note, taking an early lead through Michael Nghifikepunye, whose goal ignited hopes for his side. However, Erongo responded with determination and composure. Shashid Naobeb brought his team back into the game with a crucial equalizer, shifting momentum in Erongo’s favor.
The decisive moment came when Kunene conceded an unfortunate own goal, handing Erongo the lead. Despite pushing forward in search of an equalizer, Kunene was unable to break through Erongo’s disciplined defense, as the final whistle confirmed Erongo as champions.
Individual performances were also celebrated at the conclusion of the tournament. Shahid Naobeb was named Player of the Tournament for his outstanding contributions throughout the competition. The Top Goal Scorer award went to Kandingue from the Karas Region, recognizing his impressive goal-scoring form. Kavendjii Henrico was awarded Goalkeeper of the Tournament following a series of excellent performances between the posts.
The final showcased the immense talent present in Namibia’s regional football, with Erongo’s triumph marking a memorable and well-deserved victory in this year’s competition.
