The keenly awaited PstBet NFA Cup Round of 32 Proper was launched on Thursday in Windhoek. The cup is set to see the clubs who made it through the preliminary rounds with an addition of the Debmarine Namibia Premiership clubs battle it out to secure a spot in the next stage of the competition.

The betting giants will sponsor the NFA Cup to a tune of N$ 6 million annually. The men’s winning team of the tournament will walk away with N$500,000 followed by the runner ups who will bag N$250 000 while the third and fourth place receive N$100,000 and N$50,000 respectively.

Speaking at the launch at the Windhoek Country Club Resort, Pst Bet CEO, Steve Hamunyela highlighted the importance of the competition towards building promising athletes.

“Given the success of the recent Nedbank Newspaper Cup in Gobabis, we are encouraged to see so many talented young footballers coming through the ranks, we at PstBet believe in creating spaces and platforms to enable the Namibian child to perform at her or his highest peak. The competition will see many talented players gradually cement their place in top clubs and the national teams”.

He further noted that the competition is not entirely for the players, it’s for the administrators, the technical bench.

“In the round of 32, for instance, we noted a team called Gerros Uri-Khob Football Academy from Oshikoto, coached, and managed by a former deadly goal poacher of the Brave Warriors. It is indeed encouraging to see such developments”

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) Executive Council’s Vice President, Murs Markus commended PstBet for the initiative.

“We, at the NFA, are more than happy to ensure return on the marketing investment PstBet decided to finance the NFA and its biggest competition, the FA Cup of 2024, after an absence of more than three years.

The PstBet NFA Cup is not an ordinary competition; it is one that encompasses players hailing from all walks of life. In essence, six thousand, nine hundred and sixty [6,960] players will compete for the top honours of the Player of the PstBet NFA Cup Award in the men and women categories.”

He added that the N$6 million annual commitment from PstBet is by far the biggest ever Cup sponsor in the history of local football and the NFA will forever remain indebted to the betting cup. Football remains and is the only game that is followed by the masses in this country.

All clubs from the round of 32 will receive travelling allowance to the tune of N$20,000 and playing gear.
