02 October 2025 – The CAF African Under-15 Schools Championship, officially known as the CAF African Schools Football Championship, is a relatively new but impactful competition on the continent.
The championship was founded in 2022 and organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The initial project was launched by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe in Maputo, Mozambique, on 11 May 2022. The inaugural continental tournament took place in April 2023 in Durban, South Africa.
The main focus of the CAF African Schools Football Championship is to develop organized football at the school level across the continent for both boys and girls in the Under-15 age group.
It’s a grassroots initiative, strongly supported by a substantial donation from the Motsepe Foundation, which provides significant prize money for the winning schools/teams at both the zonal and continental levels. The goal is to create a pathway for young talent and ensure African football remains globally competitive by investing in youth development. CAF President Motsepe has emphasized that investing in schools football is “one of the best investments” for the long-term growth of African football.
Namibia has participated in the COSAFA qualifiers of the CAF African Under 15 Schools Championship every year since the tournament’s inception in 2022.
