The 10th and final edition of the popular Dr. Hage Geingob Cup was launched in the capital today.

Held in honour of the late former President, the tournament has been a cornerstone of Namibian football for the past decade.

Speaking at the launch event, NFA Vice President Mr. Murs Markus emphasized the significance of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup. “This tournament has not only showcased the talent of our young footballers but has also played a crucial role in uniting our nation,” he stated.

The Dr. Hage Geingob Cup, a private sector initiative supported by the NFA, has seen participation from top-tier South African teams like Mamelodi Sundowns and the Namibian Premier League champions or teams voted for by the public.

The final edition of the Dr. Hage Geingob Cup will take place on 19th October at the Independence Stadium. Augmented by musical performances, the day’s events will feature three matches, culminating in the highly anticipated clash between defending champions Eeshoke Chula Chula and league champions African Stars. Eeshole Chula Chula defeated African Stars 1-0 in last yearโ€™s Dr Hage Geingob Cup encounter.

Prior to the main event, a women’s match between Girls and Goals and FC Ongos Ladies will showcase the talent of Namibian female footballers. The day will kick off with a celebrity match between Omake Celebrities and Danger Point Celebrities.

The NFA vice president expressed gratitude to the late Dr. Hage Geingob for his unwavering support of the NFA and his passion for football. He also acknowledged the contributions of the tournament’s sponsors, coaches, match officials, and players.

As the 10th Dr. Hage Geingob Cup draws to a close, the NFA looks forward to the lasting legacy it has left on Namibian football.
