Since the appointment of the FIFA Normalisation Committee [NC] of the NFA on the 30th March 2022, the NC has hit the ground running to take full control of the administration and operations of the NFA. Chief on our radar was to instill financial prudence in the management of NFA funds, through an effective policy framework.
The FIFA Council assigned us with a broad mandate that is as follows:
1] To run the daily affairs of the NFA,
2] To rstructure the NFA administration,
3] To review the NFA statutes and Electoral Code to ensure their compliance with the FIFA Statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the NFA Congress,
4] To act as an electoral committee in order to organise and conduct elections of a new NFA Executive Committee based on the newly aligned NFA Statutes and Electoral Code; and
5] To ensure a proper financial handover to the new NFA Executive Committee.
The members of the FIFA Normalisation Committee are:
1] Bisey /Uirab, Chairperson,
2] Afra Schimming-Chase, Vice Chairperson,
3] Esmeralda Katjaerua,
4] Diina Shituula and
5] Willy Mertens.
We have rolled out an effective administrative strategy to bring stability within the NFA’s operations, its broad stakeholder base and its people-centric football brand.
Right from the onset, the NC assured all, to whom it may concern, that football in Namibia, from its top tier league, right throught its 1st and 2nd Divisions, not excluding women football, must start in all earnest, regardless.
Stakeholder engagement was high on the NC’s priority list, at all levels of the socio, economic and political fabric of Namibia. We have paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency, Dr. Hage Gottfried Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia and Patron of the NFA. Needless to say, the NFA, through breakthrough efforts of my colleagues, at the Normalisation Committee, played host to the 2022 COSAFA Elective General Assembly that elected Angola’s FA President, Artur de Almeida, for four years as the new COSAFA President in Windhoek.
This Elective General Assembly was graced by the presence of CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who also accompanied the NC to State House for its courtesy visit to President, Dr. Hage Geingob.
The NC has, very importantly, engaged various sponsors that committed millions to the NFA – thanks to the Namibian Government, through the Ministry of Sport, Youth & National Service and Namibia Breweries, through its Tafel Lager brand towards the Brave Warriors. By the same token, the NFA will remain deeply indebted to MTC and The Namibian for their respective two decades of investment in football development, acknowleding other key corporates like Standard Bank, FNB, Unicef, amongst others.
The work of the Normalisation Committee, under our mandate matures by end of March 2023. To date, we have consulted widely, including the Members of the NFA through consultative meetings on hardcore matters of football and NFA statutes. We will continue with our robust stakeholder engagement strategy where “nobody should feel left out” from injecting freshness, impetus and very importantly, funding in football. The NC will continue to increase its alignment and affinity levels with the Members of the NFA to land a successful Elective Congress to eventually instill a credible Executive Committee to succeed the Normalisation Committee and to continue the positive trajectory taking football from great to even greater heights.
Football is associated with passion, emotion, excitement, dedication, ‘pure joy’ and exhilaration of being at football games. Such is the intensity of the experience that two thirds of most fans have cried at football matches, mostly through joy, but occasionally because of despair. Football provides for many fans an opportunity to let themselves go emotionally; to release the frustrations of everyday life. It is against this background amongst others that the NC is determined to get football started, hopefully, not later than September 2022, appreciating that this commitment comes at a cost, money the NC has not to budget for.
We are optimistic that we will get the ball rolling, by any means necessary – rest assured!
