Man of the Match Elmo Kambindu led the Tafel Lager Brave Warriors to the top of Group B of the 2021 Cosafa Cup thanks to 2-0 win over Zimbabwe on Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Following a goalless first half, the elusive goal finally came on 70 minutes, an own goal by Jimmy Dzingai, under pressure from substitute Isaskar Gurirab.
The influential Kambindu then made it 2-0 with four minutes to go, tapping home from a fine pass over the top from the hard-working Gurirab.
Earlier on Absalom Iimbondi came close for Namibia in the first half with two shot on goal while Kambindu was a constant threat to the Zimbabwean defence.
Coach Bobby Samaria needed to made changes and for the second half, Marcel Papama and Dynamo Fredericks, who will miss the next match, made way for Isaskar Gurirab and Alfeus Handura.
The win over the six-times champions Zimbabwe sets Namibia well on track with two more games to come for them.
Namibia are in Group B and will rest on Monday before taking back to the pitch against Malawi and then Mozambique on 13 and 14 July respectively to complete group action.
Only the top two sides from the group will advance to the semifinals of the 2021 Cosafa Cup.
