The Brave Warriors will be rejuvenated for the clash against South Africa on Friday at the Al Salam Stadium following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Morrocco today.
Namibia lost their opening match of the 2029 African Cup of Nations Finals 1-0 to Morrocco , the goal coming in the 89th minute via Namibian substitute Itamunua Keimuine’ own goal.
Coach Ricardo Mannetti takes the blame for the team’s unfortunate defeat and rally his charges for the match against South Africa.
” We played a very strong Moroccan side and we held their own very well. In the end we gave them a goal and I take the blame for that. The boys did all they could today and unfortunately that happened. It’s football and we have to plan for the next match”.
The coach adds that South Africa will be a different ball game with so much at stake.
” It will be a derby on Friday, so much to play for. There will be duels and clashes and we will play different from against Morrocco and they will play differently as well”.
Mannetti reiterates that the Brave Warriors will determine a Group D, the group of death at the 32nd AFCON.
” Today we show what we can do and we not thinking of qualification but surely we can determine this group. It’s up and running and we are in there. We are playing against quality sides that have so much depth and today I sacrificed players because I was playing against Morocco, a world cup team and favorites at this tournament”, states Mannetti.
Group D will resume on Monday as South Africa and Ivory Coast clash while the next match will be in Friday as Namibia takes on their neighbors, South Africa and Morocco meet Ivory Coast.
