Mannetti names Warriors to face Ivory Coast


Absalom Iimbondi and Theophilus Junias have worked their way into the starting lineup of the Brave warriors as the team face Ivory Coast in their opening Group B game at 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Marrakesh on Sunday night.

Namibia will play their first ever CHAN finals game at the Grand Stade Marrakesh on Sunday, 18h30 Namibian time, and coach Ricardo Mannetti has announced his starting Warriors to take on the Elephants of Ivory Coast with Tigers mercurial midfielder and captain Absalom Iimbondi and Tura Magic goal poacher Theophilus Junias making the team.

Loydt Kazapua will as expected start in goal behind Ferdinand Karongee and Charles Hambira in central defence with Riaan Hanamub and Edmund Kambanda at the left and right back positions respectively. Captain Ronald Ketjijere and Dynamo Fredericks will start in central midfield with Petrus Shitembi on the left and Iimbondi on the right. Junias will join Hendrick Somaeb in attack as Mannetti plans to attack the Elephants and get a result for Namibia.

“We have enough depth and quality on and off the pitch and this starting line-up speak to our tactics on the day and how we want to play. Things may change or stay the same as the game progresses and that’s football and we remain optimistic about our chances in this opening game”, Mannetti states.

Goalkeepers Edward Maova and Charles Uirab, defenders Tiberius Lombard, Benyamin Nenkavu, Vitapi Ngaruka and Emilio Martin’ strikers Roger Katjiteo, Itamunua Keimuine and Panduleni Nekundi, as well midfielders , Kleopas Useb, Oswaldo Xamseb and Himeezembi Hengombe makes up the substitutes bench and ready to come when need be.

The Brave Warriors will play plan for their game against Uganda on 18 January at the Grand Stade Marrakesh and conclude group stage action with a clash against neighbors Zambia on 22 January in Casablanca. The top two teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals of the 2018 CHAN finals.
