Following a successful training camp in Ghana the Young warriors are ready to get to Zambia and aim for the semifinals of the 2017 Cosafa under-20 championships that take place in Kitwe from 6 to 16 December.

The boys will look to taste regional victory, a feat achieved by the Baby Warriors and the Brave Warriors in the last two years and Young Warriors coach Gerhard Guther is targeting the semifinals of the annual championship.

“ We did not have enough time to prepare for the tournament but I feel that our minimum objective should be reaching the semifinals”, a confident Guther says.

Guther adds that the trip to Ghana was positive as they took on quality opposition and tried out a lot of combinations that could prove vital at the tournament in Zambia.

“ The camp was successful and players can focus on football. The opposition was good and that have strengthen our team and as coaches we analyze players better when they are out of their comfort zones so going to Ghana was a blessing”, Guther states.

The team returned home this past weekend and was expected to travel to Zambia today but a change in the fixtures now means they depart on Wednesday before playing their first game in Group C on Friday, 08 December against Angola.

They will follow that up against Lesotho on 10 December and then conclude group action versus Zimbabwe on 12 December, all at the Davis Arthur Stadium in Kitwe.

Group B consist of last year’s runners-up South Africa ,North African guests Egypt, Mozambique and Mauritius. Group A consist of African champions Zambia, Swaziland, East African guest nation Uganda and Malawi. The top teams in each pool advance to the semifinals along with the best-placed runner-up.
