Khomas NAMPOL defeat Magic to claim NFA Women Super Cup

Goals by Faustina Amutenya and Shirley Cloete led Khomas NAMPOL Ladies to a well-deserved 2-1 win over Tura Magic Ladies in the final of the 2017 Namibia Football Association (NFA) Women Super Cup at the Legare Stadium in Gobabis on Saturday afternoon.

In the match in which Tura Magic’s impressive attack led by Zenatha Coleman faced the ruthless defence of Khomas NAMPOL led by Uerikondjera Mamie Kasaona, it was action all round as the two sides tussled for the inaugural Super Cup honors in front of an appreciative crowd at Gobabis.

Khomas NAMPOL’s Faustina Amutenya scored the early goal in the first half after a great assist by veteran Stella Williams, all against the run of play as favorites Magic had more chances to score but failed to covert.

Magic were not to be denied their goal as they drew level midway the first half through another exciting national team player Thomalina Adams in the ranks of Magic.

After the restart, Magic took their feet off the gas for a while and Khomas NAMPOL punished them badly as the entertaining Amutenya was brought down in the box by Lovisa Mulunga and up stepped former Brave Gladiator Shirley Cloete, who slotted home to make it 2-1 and game set and done for the ladies in uniform.
After the much deserved victory on the day in which they kept Coleman quite, Khomas NAMPOL coach Novata Paulus praised her charges for their display.

“I told Twelikondjela Amukoto and Williams to keep tabs on Coleman and did well today. Their job was to keep constant pressure and it worked because she was given no chance to shoot or dribble and that worked for us. She is the heart of their team”, Paulus said of her tactic to negate Coleman.

Khomas NAMPOL walked away with N$ 20 000, while Magic got N$ 10 000. The Galz and Goals team won third place on Wednesday and gets N$ 6 000, while V-Power Angels finished fourth and N$ 4 000.

On Sunday morning, the awards ceremony was held at Football House. Veteran administrator Julien Garises won the Chairperson’s Excellence award; Coach of the Series- Novata Paulus; Best Team Manager- Antoinette Tsuses (Erongo Region); Best Goalkeeper- Lydia Eixas (Galz & Goals); Best Defender- Ndapewa Katuta (Khomas NAMPOL); Best Midfielder- Memory Ngonda (Tura Magic); Best Young Player- Lydiana Nanamus (Galz & Goals); Top Goal scorers- Vistorine Shangula (Magic) and Beverly Uueziua (Goals). Player of the Tournament- Zenatha Coleman (Tura Magic Ladies). Best Media Institution- Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) and Best Journalist- Sheefeni Nikodemus.
