Gladiators stroll to 4-0 win over Botswana

Vistorine Shangula’ s brace and goals from Zenatha Coleman and Anna Shikusho led the Brave Gladiators to be comprehensive 4-0 win over Botswana in their group C opener at the Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Wednesday morning.

Making their third appearance at the regional women football champions, the Brian Isaacs’ Brave Gladiators got off the mark on 16 minutes through Vistorine Shangula and before halftime star player Zenatha Coleman slotted home a penalty before Shangula completed her brace two minutes before the break.

Botswana came back a better team and held their own until about three minutes to go as substitute Anna-Marie Shikusho hit the final nail with a well taken goal to complete a resounding 4-0 victory over their neighbors.

Mellissa Mathews started in goal while in defence, Uerikondjera Kasaona, captained the team and partnered Ester Amukwaya, Ina Katuta and Lovisa Mulunga. Up field, Zenatha Coleman, Millicent Hikuam, amongst others, were in fine form in a game that they thoroughly dominated.

The Gladiators had 14 shots at goal with 11 on target, to Botswana three on target and dominated the corner kicks count with seven to Botswana one overall.

The Brave Gladiators will now play South Africa on Friday, 15 September, 14h00 and then finish off against Lesotho on 17 September, 16h00 in Bulawayo. The 2017 Cosafa Women Championship is live on Namibia Broadcasting Corporations (NBC) , channel 6.
