Omusati, Erongo and Kavango West in control

The defending champions Omusati Region, Erongo and Kavango West have taken lead in their respective groups after Day one of the 2017 Skorpion Zinc under -17 Cup underway in Windhoek at the Sam Nujoma Stadium and the NFA Technical Centre.

The boys from Namibia’s 14 regions have started off the battle to be crowned champions of the 2017 Skorpion Zinc under- 17 Cup and have scored 38 goals in 13 matches on Friday, 08 September.

Group A

The Skorpion Zinc Under-17 Cup defending champions Omusati region are sitting atop of Group A on four points from two games as they defeated Omaheke 3-1 and drew against Otjozondjupa 1-1. Against Omaheke, Luqman Alfeus, Gideon Andjamba and Willem Elia got the goals for Omusati. In the match against Otjozondjupa Viuaa Kuhanga scored for Otjozondjupa and at the death Elifas Markus got the equalizer. Mutano Boois from Otjozondjupa was voted Man of the Match.

Karas and Kunene Regions are two and three in Group A on three points. Karas beat Otjozondjupa 3-1 through goals from Wilrich Afrikaner’s brace and Man of the match Dandre Both. Sisqo Haraseb scored for Otjozondjupa. Kunene were 2-0 winners over Omaheke with goals from Man of the Match Giovanni Kaninab and Gonzalez Tsuseb.

Group B

Group B is headed by Erongo Region who recorded an impressive 6-1 hammering of Ohangwena Region and also had a 2-2 draw with Kavango East. Man of the match Prins Tjiueza scored two and so did Dario Goraseb, while Steven Damaseb and Leighton Mcgalty scored on each. Johnson Heita got the goal for Ohangwena.
Ohangwena and Oshikoto played to a 2-2 draw with Man of the Match Fares Kamusonga with a brace for Oshikoto and Johnson Heita bagging two as well for Ohangwena. Khomas in their only game of the day beat Oshikoto 3-1 and take up second spot in the Group.

Group C
Kavango West are leading Group C with only one team from this group guaranteed a place in the semifinals. Kavango West are on maximum six points after they defeated Hardap 2-0 through goals by Petrus Shapi and Markus Mukwata. They then beat Zambezi Region with Markus Mukwata with the only goal. Oshana Region are second on four points thanks to their hard fought 1-0 victory over Hardap where Merekisedek Amukoto got the goal and Mauricia Shimbili won the Man of the Match award, to add to their earlier 1-1 draw against Zambezi Region.

On Saturday, the action will continue on Saturday morning with 13 games spread across the two venues. Karas and Kunene will open the action at the Sam Nujoma Stadium at 09h00, followed by Oshikoto versus Kavango East.

At the NFA Technical Centre, Khomas and Ohangwena will face off at 09h00 and then Kavango West and Oshana will battle it out. Group A winners will face Group C winners in the semi-finals while Group B winners will face the best runner –up from Group A and B on Sunday before the final on the same day. The championship is free for entrance.
