Erongo into Newspaper Cup semifinals
Man of the Match Mathias Haihambo scored a goal each half to help Erongo secure a 2-0 win over Omaheke on Easter Saturday and a place in the semifinals of the 2017 The Namibian Newspaper Cup underway at Vineta Sports Complex in Swakopmund.
Omaheke came into the match having played to a 1-1 draw with Kunene and Erongo were emphatic 3-0 winners over Kavango East in the first round of matches on Good Friday. Mathias Haihambo, having scored in the previous match as well was the star of the show this time around as he scored who goals that catapulted Erongo into the semifinals as Group winners on six points in Group B. they still have to play Kunene.
Another Group that looks exciting is Group A were Hardap are leading on four points, joint with Omusati who had to see their almost victory becomes as a draw as Zambezi got an added time equalizer on Easter Saturday afternoon. Hardap were due to face Oshana, needing just a draw to reach the semifinals, while Oshana can qualify with a win.
Daniel Kamanya got Omusati going early in the first half and he made it 2-0 before held time to compete his brace. Zambezi got their goals from Owen Mwiya and a dramatic late equalizer by Adelino Kahali.
Group C also continued on Saturday with Otjozondjupa beating Karas 1-0 to take the lead in the group. Michael Kamuserandu got the decisive goal from the penalty spot midway the first half to hand Otjozondjupa the victory and top spot in Group C on three points ahead of Ohangwena Region and Karas on a point each. Karas’ Elias Stephanus walked away with the Man of the Match award.
In group D, Khomas, with a healthy goal difference of plus three, only need to draw against Kavango West to reach the semifinals, with Oshikoto on three points, minus 1 goal different. Kavango West have to score over five goals to advance at the expense of Khomas.
On Easter Sunday, Erongo will face will face Group A winners while Group C and Group D winners face off in the semifinals.
