NFA suspends football

The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has suspended all football activities with immediate effect in wake of the Coronavirus national directive by President Dr. Hage Geingob on Saturday, banning gathering to limit the spread of the pandemic.

NFA Acting Secretary General Franco Cosmos says in line with that directive by Dr. Hage Geingob and from football controlling bodies FIFA and CAF, “all qualifications matches are cancelled and even FIFA issued a directive that teams are not obliged to release players and the players are also not obliged to honor their call ups”.

Cosmos adds that the 2020 CHAN Finals participation decision is pending. “We anticipate that by this week the CAF Medical Team will pronounce themselves after they have visited Cameroon recently and a decision will be made whether we go or stay”.

The Brave Warriors preparatory match at Swakopmund on Saturday was cancelled and the CHAN finals training camp suspended until further notice. The Brave Gladiators camp is also off with immediate effect until further notice since their qualifying matches are also suspended.

“The health of everyone is very important and we need to follow protocols as we receive them from relevant authorities. It’s a virus that have engulfed the world-over and we have to play our part in controlling its devastating effects”, Cosmos states.
