The Brave Gladiators and the Young Gladiators both lost their second matches at the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Cup in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on Saturday.
The senior Gladiators needed a win to keep their hopes of competing in the semi-finals of the competition alive after their maiden 0-1 defeat to Botswana in the opening match of the championship.
But they lost 3-2 to Zambia on Saturday as the latter scored through Hellen Mubanga’s two goals and another by her teammate Mary Mwakapila. Zenatha Coleman and Annouscka Kordom scored Namibia’s goals during a match which was played at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The defeat means the Namibian team will not progress to the next round of the competition. They are now third in the group, level on zero points with their next opponents at the championship, Mauritius.
On the same day the Young Gladiators who started off the competition with a 2-1 win over Mozambique , lost their second match at the championship on Saturday to hosts South Africa who sealed their place in the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory.
Shakeerah Jacobs scored the only goal of the game in the 10th minute as South Africa moved to six points.
The Young Gladiators still has a chance of qualification for the semi-finals and will need to defeat Zimbabwe in their next match on Monday.
