African Stars beat Tigers 2-0 in the final of the inaugural edition of the Standard Bank Top 8 Cup final played at a packed and lively Sam Nujoma Stadium. Stars took the honors with a goal each half through Gustav Isaaks who scored on 33 minutes from a freekick while Chrispin Mbewe got the final goal on 80th minutes to seal the Cup for Stars. Both sides came into the final match looking to salvage their season as the league title was taken by Black Africa on Thursday night and the sides surely put up a spectacular show for the football loving Namibians that graced the majestic venue in the heart of Katutura.
Tigers thought they have equalised after the break only for their goal by substitute Deon Tjizumane to be ruled offside. In the end , Stars were the big winners on the night as they took home N$500 000 whole coach Bobby Samaria won the Coach of the Tournament award (N$15 000); Ratanda Mbazuvara Goalkeeper of the Tournament (N$10 000) and Aubrey Amseb Player of the Tournament (N$15 000). Mbazuvara also took the Man of the final match accolade (N$3000). Amseb, Tigers’ Lylwelyn Stanley and Salomon Amseb of Tura Magic shared the Top goalscorer award with two goals each and each will receive N$5000. Jonas Shongedi is the Best Referee of the Tournament (N$5000) while Matheus Nevonga is the Best Assistant Referee (N$5000).
Tigers got their Silver Medals as well as N$ 250 000 while Tura Magic and Black Africa, losers in the Semifinals each will receive N$125 000.
